John Y. Campbell

John Young Campbell ( born May 17, 1958) is a British- American economist and university professor who holds the Morton L. and Carole S. Olshan Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He is also Chairman of the Department of Economics at Harvard University and one of the most cited economists.

Training

Campbell attended from 1976 to 1979 Corpus Christi College at the University of Oxford, where in 1979 a BA First Class received. He then moved to Yale University, giving it a 1981 M.Phil. and in 1984 a Ph.D. lent. His PhD, Campbell under the supervision of Robert Shiller.

Professional career

After his Ph.D. Campbell took a position as Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University and was promoted in 1989 to full professor. In 1994 Campbell a call to Harvard University, where he became the Otto Eckstein Professor of Applied Economics, before moving on to Harvard College Professor in 2006 and 2011 got transferred the Morton L. and Carole S. Olshan Professor of Economics. Since 2009, Campbell is also Chairman of the Department of Economics at Harvard University. Throughout his career, Campbell worked as a visiting professor at several other universities, including the London School of Economics (1989-1990), the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1993-1994), the Study Center Gerzensee (1997), MIT (1998 -1999 ) and the NTNU in Trondheim ( 2000).

Parallel to this, Campbell 's editorial editorial work for the economics journals Journal of Financial Econometrics, and Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking. In the past he was the chief editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics, co- editor of the American Economic Review and editor of the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Econometrica, the Economics Letters, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Applied Econometrics and the Review of Financial Studies.

Research

John Y. Campbell consulted in accordance with the economics publication database IDEAS the strongest research economists in the world and currently is ranked 8 in the overall ranking of IDEAS. Campbell's most cited research is based on a 1994 together with John Cochrane written article called " By force of habit: a consumption -based explanation of aggregate stock market behavior". In this article, Campbell and Cochrane develop on the basis of consumer theory, a model with which a variety of phenomena occurring in equity markets can be explained. Campbell researches generally on topics from the fields of finance and macroeconomics, especially to fixed-income securities, the valuation of equity and portfolio theory.
