Johnny "Country" Mathis

"Country" Johnny Mathis ( born September 28, 1933, Maud, Texas; † 27 September 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee) was an American country music singer and composer. The nickname he received Country, not to be confused with the pop singer Johnny Mathis.

Career

Johnny Mathis began his career at the Louisiana Hayride radio show, a short time later he was next to his friend Jimmy Lee Fautheree member of the duo Jimmy and Johnny. At the Capitol Records they got a record deal, they had their biggest hit in 1954 with If You Do not, Somebody Else Will. In addition, Mathis was a member of other radio shows such as the Big D Jamboree, Liberty Jamboree or the EZ Hoedown in New Orleans. Mid -1950s, Mathis got out of the duo and began his solo career. In the following years he took on many different labels, however insignificant, to plates. As a songwriter, however, Mathis was far more successful; his tracks have been recorded from successful country musicians such as George Jones, Johnny Paycheck and Webb Pierce. His last chart entry Mathis had in the 1960s.

Since 1999, Johnny Mathis had retired from public life due to a severe stroke. His son John also launched a career as a composer and country musician.
