Jomsom

Jomsom (also Jomosom ) ( Nepali: जोमसोम ) is a town in the upper Kali Gandaki valley in Nepal, 2770 m. Jomsom is the capital of the district of Mustang and is situated on the Annapurna Circuit. The town has an airport, which is served from Pokhara and is therefore frequently starting or end point for trekking tours. It is also stationed there a training unit of the high mountain troops of the Nepalese Army. At the southern end the Mustang Eco Museum with a photo gallery, a collection of local costumes and a library can be found. Since 2008 introduces a dirt road ( passable for jeeps and motorcycles ) from Pokhara to Jomsom and on to the famous pilgrimage site of Muktinath. A few miles south is the apple and apricot growing region of Nepal ( Marpha, Tukuche ).

The Jomsom airport ( actually just an airfield ) applies because of its location between high mountains as dangerous.
