Jonas Staugaitis

? Jonas Staugaitis listen / i ( born May 20, 1868 in Omentiškiai, County Vilkaviškis Russian Empire; † January 18, 1952 in Kaunas, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic). Was the fourth President of the Republic of Lithuania Formally he had during the coup d'etat in December 1926 held this position for a day as Chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas and resigned after the completion of the coup.

Life

From 1887 to 1893 he studied medicine at the University of Warsaw. In 1919 he was elected as a member of Peasant People's Party in the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ). On 2 June 1926 he was elected Chairman of the Seimas.

He is buried in the cemetery Petrašiūnai in Kaunas.
