Jonathan Michie

Jonathan Michie ( born March 25, 1957 in London, England ) is a British economist, professor of innovation and knowledge transfer in Oxford, President of Kellogg College and Director of Lifelong Learning at the University of Oxford.

Life

After two years at the international advanced level College United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, from which he graduated in 1973 with an International Baccalaureate, Michie attended Balliol College, Oxford. Here he received a " first class honors " in Philosophy, Politics and Economics ( PPE) and later a doctor. In between, he completed an MSc with distinction in Economics at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London.

From 1983 he worked in the economics department of the Trades Union Congress, a trade union federation, and moved in 1988 as an expert on competition issues to the European Commission. In 1990 he moved into the academic world and was a member of the economic wissem economic faculty in Cambridge. From 1992 to 1997 he was University Lecturer in Accounting & Finance at the Judge Business School in Cambridge and Fellow and Director of Studies in Economics at Robinson College. At the same time he was director of contract and competition program of the Economic and Social Research Council ( ESRC). After seven years at Cambridge, he moved in 1997 to the University of London. Here he became rector of the School of Management & Organizational Psychology and took over the Sainsbury Chair of Management at Birkbeck College. In 2004 he moved to Birmingham as Professor of Management and was Director of Birmingham Business School and a member of the University Council. In 2007 he finally took over the position as President of Kellogg College and, consequently, the function as Director of Lifelong Learning at the University of Oxford. He is professor of innovation and knowledge transfer. He is head of the Commission for Property, which was used at the University of Oxford.

Jonthan Michie is a member of the Academy of Social Sciences and a member of the Enterprise and Skills Strategic Advisory Committee of the Higher Education Funding Council for England HEFCE. He is the editor of several scientific journals, including The Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy & Society ISSN 1752-1386.

Jonathan Michie is the son of the biologist Dame Anne McLaren and computer scientist Donald Michie. He is married to Carolyn Downs, the Deputy Permanent Secretary and Director General for Corporate Performance is the Ministry of Justice. They have two sons and live in Oxford.
