Jorge Basadre

Jorge Basadre Grohmann ( born February 12, 1903 in Tacna, Peru, † June 29, 1980 in Lima, Peru) was a Peruvian historian.

Basadre became known for his extensive publications on the independence of Peru. Basadre was twice Peruvian Minister of Education and stood in front of the director of the Peruvian National Library ( Biblioteca Nacional del Perú ).

Jorge Basadre was born in 1903 in Tacna, the seventh and last child of the spouses Carlos Forero Basadre and Olga Grohmann Butler y Pividal. He began his training in 1908 at the Lyceum Saint Rose in Tacna. 1912 the family moved to Lima. Basadre attended the German School and in 1918, the Colegio Nacional Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
