Jorge Edwards

Jorge Edwards ( born June 29, 1931 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean diplomat and writer.

Life

He studied in Chile and Princeton law and philosophy. As a diplomat, he represented his country in Brussels, Havana, Lima and Paris. After the military coup in 1973 he went into exile in Spain for five years. For his great literary work, he has received numerous awards, including the 1994 Chilean National Prize and in 1999 the most important literary award in the Spanish-speaking world, the "Premio Cervantes ".

From 1994 to 1996, Edwards was the Chilean ambassador to UNESCO; In 2010 he was appointed by President Sebastian Pinera as ambassador to France.
