Jorge Fernández DÃaz
Jorge Fernández Díaz ( born April 6, 1950 in Valladolid ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular.
Life and career
Fernández Díaz studied engineering work in Barcelona.
Between 1984 and 1989 he was a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia, and at times a member of the Spanish Senate. Since 1989 he has been a member of the electoral district of Barcelona in the Congreso de los Deputies. He was Secretary of State for Territorial Administration ( Administraciones Territorial, 1996-1999), State Secretary in the Ministry of Education ( 1999-2000) and Secretary of State for Parliamentary Relations ( Relaciones con las Cortes, 2000-2004).
Since 21 December 2011, he became Minister of Interior in the Cabinet Rajoy.
On August 29, 2012, the National Court announced to have started an investigation against Fernández Díaz because of secret treason. He is said to have divulged at a press conference in July, details about the kidnapping of the businessman Publio Cordon. The court demanded by broadcasters copies of the recordings and the police management information on the investigating officers.
Fernández Díaz is married and has two children.
