Jorge Urosa
Jorge Liberato Cardinal Urosa Savino ( born August 28, 1942 in Caracas, Venezuela) is Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Caracas.
Life
Urosa was born in Caracas, came from a religious family and grew up in Canada. After studying Catholic theology among other things, at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1967 Urosa received by Cardinal José Quintero Parra, the sacrament of Holy Orders.
Pope John Paul II appointed him on July 3, 1982 Titular Bishop of Vegesela in Byzacena and Auxiliary Bishop of Caracas. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Caracas and later Cardinal José Alí Lebrun Moratinos on 22 September of the same year. In 1990 he was appointed Archbishop of Valencia in Venezuela.
Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 19 September 2005 to the Archbishop of Caracas and took him in solemn consistory on 24 March 2006 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria ai Monti in the College of Cardinals to.
He is the first Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Uruguay grave in Jerusalem.
Political commitment
In April 2002, published Urosa an article in which he justified the coup of 12 April 2002.
As archbishop of Caracas, he was considered one of the most active critics of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, whose path to the " Bolivarian revolution", he complained heavily, such as the broadcasting license withdrawal for the private station Radio Caracas TV.
