José Alonso (athlete)

José Alonso ( Alonso José Valero, born February 12, 1957 in El Vendrell ) is a retired Spanish sprinter and hurdler.

In the 400 m hurdles, he was ten times national champion ( 1977, 1978, 1980, 1984-1990 ). The European Athletics Championships 1978 in Prague, he was seventh. 1983, 1986 and 1988, he won at the Ibero-American Championships, 1983 and 1987 at the Mediterranean Games Gold. At the World Athletics Championships in 1983, he reached the semifinals at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he retired in advance of, and at the European Championships 1986 in Stuttgart, he finished sixth. In 1987 he was at the World Championships in Rome aft, and the following year he came at the Olympic Games in Seoul semi-finals. At the European Championships in 1990 in Split, he was seventh.

In the 400 - meter race he won four Spanish Indoor Champion (1985, 1987, 1988, 1990). In the Indoor Athletics European Championships he won in this discipline in 1985 in Piraeus bronze and 1986 in Madrid.

After his athletic career, he served as Manager of Spanish and Moroccan athletes. In December 2010 he was arrested in a study conducted in the wake of the doping scandal Fuentes raid together with its clients Marta Domínguez and Alberto García, sports doctor Eufemiano Fuentes and ten other persons suspected to have engaged in commerce with doping preparations.
