José Carbajal (Uruguayan musician)

José María Carbajal Pruzzo ( born December 8, 1943 in Juan Lacaze, † 21 October, 2010 Villa Argentina ), known as El Sabalero, was an Uruguayan singer, composer and guitarist. Carbajal was the author and artist of several hits, such as Chiquillada, A mi gente and La Sencillita.

Life

He moved in 1967 to Montevideo. Here he took in the same year at the Orfeo label his first record on. In 1969 appeared his first LP entitled " Canto popular ". With a prologue the poet Idea Vilariño and musical accompaniment of Yamandú Palacios and Roberto Cabrera this record great success in Uruguay and Latin America was granted. Also Chiquillada, one often later by other artists - including Leonardo Favio and Jorge Cafrune - song interpreted, increased his popularity.

Between 1970 and 1973 he lived in Buenos Aires, with the in Uruguay establishing itself ends dictatorship he emigrated. He lived in Brazil, Mexico, France and Spain. From the latter country he was eventually expelled from the Franco regime, so that he ultimately settled in the Netherlands.

He returned again in 1984 to Uruguay and lived there until 1992. Thereafter, however, he moved back to the Netherlands, but still ran a musical project in Montevideo and shuttled between the homes. In addition to the extensive recordings Carbajals his musical activity also took place in other areas appeal. Awards

In the years 1997, 1997, 1998 and 2001, Carbajal was awarded respectively to the MUSA price of the Asociación General de Autores del Uruguay ( agadu ). In 1999 he received the Prize of the Sociedad de Autores de Argentina ( SADAIC ). Two years later he was honored with the Morosoli price.
