José María Basanta

José María Basanta (2012 )

José María Basanta ( born April 3, 1984 in Tres Sargentos, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine naturalized Mexican football player and on the position of a defender.

Life

Basanta started his professional career in 2003 with Estudiantes de La Plata in the Argentine Primera División. Because he could not prevail there, he was loaned out in the 2006/07 season to the second division Olimpo de Bahía Blanca, with whom he won the second division championship in the same season and promotion to the first division. Plan for the next Premiership season 2007/ 08 he was brought back to the Estudiantes and played for them among others in the Copa Libertadores.

Before the season 2008/ 09 he was taken by his countryman Ricardo La Volpe, who was coach of the Mexican first division club CF Monterrey at that time, the land of the Aztecs, where he has stands at Monterrey under contract. With the Rayados Basanta won the previous two league titles and twice the CONCACAF Champions League. He also took third place with his team at the FIFA Club World Cup 2012.

He was honored in the Apertura 2012 with the Balón de Oro, the Golden Ball as the best central defender of the Mexican League.
