José María Rubio

José María Rubio y Peralta, SJ ( born July 22, 1864 in Dalías, Spain, † May 2, 1929 in Aranjuez, Spain) was a Spanish Jesuit and priest. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church.

Life

José María Rubio y Peralta, who came from a farming family, was ordained a priest in 1887 and in 1890 was appointed professor at the seminary in Madrid. After a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1906, he joined the Jesuit order at. A popular preacher and confessor, he was successful from the Order 's headquarters in Madrid. José María Rubio y Peralta took special care of the poor, sick and disabled, also he organized retreats and missions for the poor. Even during his lifetime he was called an apostle of Madrid.

José María Rubio y Peralta was beatified and canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 6, 1985 on May 4, 2003. His feast day in the liturgy is May 2
