José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera

José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera ( born June 6, 1932 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba ) is a Cuban politician.

Biography

After schooling, he studied medicine and participated as a student in strikes and manifestos against President Fulgencio Batista. He completed his medical studies with a doctorate in medicine.

In May 1957, he was one of the companions of the revolutionary Frank País in the Sierra Maestra, where it formed a second war front. However, he was soon arrested and brought to the prison of Boniato. After his release in 1958 he was a member of B Company " Pedro Soto Alba " and the 19th unit on the second front " Frank País " in the rebel forces led by Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro.

After the end of the revolution on January 1, 1959, he initially remained in the Revolutionary Armed Forces ( Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias ), before he then employees in the Ministry of Health ( Ministerio de Salud Pública ) was. In 1975 he was elected member of the Central Committee (CC ) of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC ). Between 1976 and 1985 he was first secretary of the PCC in the province of Santiago de Cuba and was, as such, member of the Secretariat of the PCC and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee.

Balaguer Cabrera from 2005 to 2010 Minister of Public Health in the Council of Ministers and member of the State Council. In addition, he is also a member of the Politburo and a deputy of the National Assembly ( Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular).
