José Revueltas

José Revueltas Sánchez ( born November 20, 1914 in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, † April 14, 1976 in Mexico City) was a Mexican writer, screenwriter, and political activist.

Life

José was the youngest son of Revueltas Sánchez family. In order to find more time for an autodidactic education in the field of literary studies, he finished his school career on a high school by themselves. His political media were writing were his screenplays, political memberships and the public space. In 1928, he joined the Partido Comunista Mexicano, from him but his " Ensayo de un proletariado sin cabeza " 1943, the membership was terminated because of his criticisms of the bureaucratic procedure and the publication. He co-founded the League Espartaquista and the Partido Popular Socialista (PPS ), from which he was also later dismissed because of his criticisms.

Because of his political activities he was arrested several times, first time at the age of 14 and 15 years and still as a minor in the high-security detention facility on the Tres Marias Islands. In 1958 he joined the railway movement and was arrested again. As the " intellectual author " of the student movement of 1968, he was made ​​responsible for the massacre of Tlatelolco and spent his sentence in the Palacio de Lecumberri of Mexico City.

For his work he was honored at the age of 60 years with the Mexican National Prize. In 1976, the year in which he died, was the detention center at the Palacio de Lecumberri, the so-called "Black Palace " closed after 104 years of existence.
