José Tomás de Sousa Martins
José Tomás de Sousa Martins ( born March 7, 1843 in Alhandra; † August 18, 1897 ) was a Portuguese doctor and professor of medicine. He achieved fame by his commitment to public health, in particular the fight against tuberculosis. In his home country he is widely revered as a saint, his cult is not recognized by the Catholic Church.
