Josef Černý

Josef Černý ( born October 18, 1939 in Rožmitál pod Třemšínem, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach who has completed more than 600 matches in the first league and over 200 international matches.

Career

In his 21 -year career at ZKL Brno he presented with a total of 686 games in the Czechoslovak league record. The case reached 403 goals took him to second place. From 1960 to 1966 he won at the national level seven times the championship. 1966 to 1968 he won the European Cup three times.

For the Czechoslovak national ice hockey team he was in 210 international matches on the ice. With a total of four Olympic Games, he won three medals - 1964 Bronze, 1968 Silver and 1972 1972 again the bronze medal. A total of twelve World Ice Hockey Championships, he managed to win ten medals, but was never world champion.

His last season 1978/79 he spent as player-coach at the Austrian Club ATSE Graz. This is followed by a career as a coach in Italy and Czechoslovakia followed.

Since 2005 he works as a youth coach at Kometa Brno. In 2007 he was honored for his achievements with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame.
