Josef Lammerz

Josef Lammerz ( born June 15, 1930 in Bonn, † January 8, 2014 in Teulada, Spain ) was a German composer, organist and choirmaster.

Life and work

Josef Lammerz received at a young age piano and organ lessons. He was particularly influenced by Hubert Brings, the former and longtime cathedral organist in Bonn.

From 1950 to 1954 he studied church music at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Dusseldorf, then he pursued private studies in composition with Rudolf Petzold in Cologne and other organ studies in Dusseldorf at Clemens Ingenhoven. From 1956 to 1975, Josef Lammerz organist and choirmaster at Christ the King Church in Duisburg, where he set up a much-acclaimed choir. He was responsible for numerous performances of major works of the choral repertoire and his own compositions. From 1961 to 1975 Josef Lammerz was a lecturer for the subjects of piano and organ at the Lower Rhine music school in Duisburg and theory at the Folkwang School in Essen, Duisburg Institute. From 1975 to 1989 he worked as organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral Basilica in Bonn.

Josef Lammerz lived since 1989 in Teulada on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Great works (exhibitions, cantatas, psalms ) arrived here for the premiere. Lammerz was an honorary citizen of Teulada and in Xativa, the birthplace of the Borgia popes, was named a street after him.
