Josef Mikl

Josef Mikl ( born August 8, 1929 in Vienna, † March 29, 2008 ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist.

Life

Josef Mikl attended from 1946 to 1948, the Higher School of Graphic Arts and Research Institute in Vienna. Then studied from 1948 to 1955 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Josef Dobrowsky. In 1956 he founded, together with Wolfgang Hollegha, Markus Prachensky and Arnulf Rainer, the 'Galerie St. Stephan ". In 1964 he exhibited at the Documenta III; In 1977 he participated in the documenta 6. 1968 Mikl represented Austria at the Biennale in Venice. From 1969 to 1997, Mikl professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

Mikl represented an abstract realism with the human figure as the central theme. A special importance came to the drawing with him.

Mikl died at the age of 78 years to cancer and was buried in the cemetery Döblinger.
