Josep Guinovart

Josep Guinovart i Bertran ( born March 20, 1927 in Barcelona, † December 12, 2007 ) was a Spanish painter and graphic artist.

Life

Josep Guinovart visited from 1941, the " Escuela de Maestros Pintores ", then art school in Barcelona and Paris. After his return he lived in Agramunt at Lleida.

He was in 1948 alongside artists such as Joan Miró and Antoni Tàpies co-founder of the Catalan artist group " Dau al Set ", an avant-garde movement in the time of the dictatorial regime of Francisco Franco.

He died of a heart attack.

Work

Guinovart was considered one of the most important abstract artists of the post-war period in Spain. He became internationally known with large murals and collages.

His works have been exhibited in Europe, the USA and Latin America. Most of his works are in the museum opened in 1994 " Espai Guinovart de Agramunt " in Catalan Agramunt.

In 1987 he was honored by the Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales ( CEOE ). In 1992, he presented his work in the Catalan state of the EXPO 92 in Seville. Also in 1992, the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria presented a major exhibition of his work. In 1997 an exhibition of his life's work in the Cuartel del Conde Duque in Madrid and 2002 in the " Pedrera " in Barcelona.
