Joseph Appiani

Joseph Ignaz APPIANI (Italian: Giuseppe Ignazio APPIANI; * October 16, 1706 in Munich, according to other data in Porto Ceresio in the province of Varese, † August 19 1785 in Triefenstein ) was a painter, especially a fresco painter, court painter to the Elector of Mainz, founder and first director of the Mainz Academy of Arts. He was the son of the plasterer Pietro Francesco Appiani from Porto Ceresio and Mary Sophia ( Fürstenfeld ) Bruck. His uncle was the plasterer APPIANI Jacopo ( 1687-1742 ).
