Joseph Bates (Adventist)

Joseph Bates ( born July 8, 1792 in Rochester in New Bedford, Massachusetts, † March 19, 1872 in Battle Creek, Michigan ) was a ship's captain, abstainers and social reformer, milleritischer lay preacher and co-founder of the Free Church of Seventh- day Adventists.

Joseph Bates was the greatest preacher of the Sabbath doctrine among the Adventists. After he accepted the Sabbath in March 1845, he managed to convince many Adventists Sabbath, among them Hiram Edson, FB Hahn, ORL Crosier and James and Ellen G. White.
