Joseph Earlston Thropp

Joseph Earlston Thropp ( born October 4, 1847 in Valley Forge, Chester County, Pennsylvania, † July 27, 1927 in Quebec City, Canada ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Thropp attended the public schools of his home and then the Friends Central High School in Philadelphia. In 1868 he graduated from where he was trained as a civil engineer the Polytechnic College of Pennsylvania. After that he worked in Duluth (Minnesota) and Fond du Lac (Wisconsin ) in this profession. Then he worked as a civil engineer for a railroad company. Since 1870 he lived in Conshohocken, where he went into the iron business. In 1888 he became the owner of the iron works Earlston Furnaces in Everett.

Politically Thropp was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1898 he was in the 20th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Josiah Duane Hicks on March 4, 1899. Since he has not been confirmed in 1900, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1901. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Joseph Thropp withdrew into retirement, which he spent in Washington and Miami ( Florida). He died on July 27, 1927 during a visit to Quebec City and was buried in Philadelphia.
