Joseph Goldstein

Joseph Goldstein ( born 1944 ) is an American teacher of Vipassana meditation in the tradition of early Buddhist Theravada.

Life

After graduating in philosophy at Columbia University, he became involved in 1965 in the Peace Corps of the United States of America as a volunteer for Thailand, where he became interested in Buddhism.

Since 1967 he has studied with various teachers in India, Burma and Tibet as SN Goenka, the Dalai Lama and the 16th Karmapa, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Joshu Sasaki Roshi but also, inter alia,

In 1974 he enrolled at the Naropa Institute of Chögyam Trungpa to give courses in Boulder, where he met Jack Kornfield and Sharon Salzberg, with whom in 1975 he founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, goal for more in the series.
