Joseph Lowery

Joseph Echols Lowery ( born October 6, 1921) is an American pastor of the United Methodist Church and a leader of the American civil rights movement (Civil rights movement ).

Together with Martin Luther King, he was involved in the founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and was its chairman from 1977 to 1997.

With the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama on 20 January 2009 Joseph Lowery said the blessing for the inauguration.
