Joseph Owades

Joseph Owades ( born July 9, 1919 in New York, NY, USA, † December 16, 2005 in Sonoma, California ) was an American biochemist. To him, the invention of the diet beer is attributed.

Life

Owades studied at the City College New York, he then received from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn a master's and doctorate degrees. Brewing, he studied at Fleischmann 's Yeast. In the Rheingold Brewery in New York, where he and later promoted to technical director for Vice President, he managed to remove the starch from beer. This invention reduced the carbs and calories of the beer. 1967 his diet beer was introduced with the name Gablinger 's. With the approval of his boss, he shared his process with a friend from the Chicago brewery brewing masters that came out soon with master brewer Lite. The Miller Brewery bought the brewing process of the beer diet 1970 by master brewer and had a sensational success. Even if Gablinger 's found no eager buyers, Owades was regarded as the father of the diet beer. He was an international consultant in the beer business and continued to work at his Institute for Brewing Studies. In the early 80 's he moved to the Bay Area to Boston.

Joseph Owades married in 1969 Ruth Markowitz, who founded Calyx & Corolla Luxury bouquets. He had two sons.
