Joseph P. Kolter

Joseph Paul Kolter (born 3 September 1926 in McDonald, Trumbull County, Ohio ) is a former American politician. Between 1983 and 1993 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Coulter attended until 1944 the New Brighton High School in Pennsylvania. Between 1944 and 1947 he served in the U.S. Army. There he witnessed the final stages of World War II. He then continued his education until 1950 at Geneva College in Beaver Falls continues. In the following years he worked as an accountant and teacher. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1961 to 1965 he was a member of the council of New Brighton; 1969-1982 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1982, Coulter was in the fourth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Republican Charles F. Dougherty on January 3, 1983. After four elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1993 five legislative sessions. In 1992, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

Later his involvement in the Congressional Post Office Scandal was uncovered. He was sentenced to six months in prison for corruption. The other affected Congressman Dan Rostenkowski was from Illinois. This affair ended Coulter's political career.
