Joseph V Augustine Hindi

Mar Joseph V. († April 3, 1827 in Diyarbakır ) was a patriarch ( de jure Patriarchal Administrator ) of the Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate in Diyarbakir.

Augustine Hindi, nephew of Patriarch Joseph IV, in 1780 Metropolitan of Diyarbakir and as patriarchal administrator, succeeding his uncle. Because of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Union of the Patriarchate of Alqosh in the plain of Mosul Rome he constantly refused the title of Patriarch. After 1812 he officiated also as apostolic delegate, ie papal legate, for the competing Chaldean Catholic " Patriarchate of Babylon" in Alqosh. The awarding of the pallium in 1818 he interpreted as Roman recognition of his patriarch and called himself ever since "Patriarch Joseph V. " After his death in 1827 the Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate of Diyarbakir Rome was dissolved.
