Joseph von Spaun

Joseph Ritter von Spaun, from 1859 Baron von Spaun (* November 11, 1788 in Linz, Upper Austria, † November 25, 1865 ) was a kk Councilor and lottery gradient director, honorary citizen of Vienna and Teschen.

Family

Joseph von Spaun came from the original Swabian family Spaun whose ordinary series begins with the farmer and Garnsieder Bartholomew Spaun, mentioned in 1583-1599, in Deisenhausen ( Günzburg ) and later in Linz (Upper Austria ) became wealthy. He was the son of Franz Xaver Ritter von Spaun (1756-1804), the Imperial Council and the Estates General Counsel in Upper Austria, and the widowed Josepha Steyrer Ried Castle ( 1757-1835 ). His brother was the historian and folklorist Anton Ritter von Spaun ( 1790-1849 ).

Spaun married on 14 April 1828 in Vienna Franziska Roner Noble honor of value ( born July 17, 1795 in Calliano, Asti province, South Tyrol, † January 31, 1890 in Gorizia ), the daughter of the landowner and kk Captain Joseph Edler von Roner honor value. Life

Spaun studied from 1806 to 1809 law at the University of Vienna and then entered the civil service. He learned in the seminary in 1808 the younger by eight years Franz Schubert know and this led to a lifelong friendship. Spaun supported Schubert over again financially. He also gave him an opera and theater visits. He also led the young Schubert in parts of Viennese society. Also, in the last great Schubertiade the composer's lifetime on January 28, 1828 Spaun acted as host.

On May 18, 1841 he was made an honorary citizen of Vienna.
