Joseph William Tobin
Joseph William Tobin, C.Ss.R. ( May 3, 1952 in Detroit, USA) is Archbishop of Indianapolis.
Life
Joseph William Tobin joined after leaving school the Congregation of the Redemptorists and lay on August 5, 1972, the temporal vows. In 1975, he earned at Holy Redeemer College in Waterford the Baccalauréat in Philosophy. On August 21, 1976 Tobin made his solemn vows. Joseph William Tobin acquired in 1977 a master's degree in religious education. He received on 1 June 1978, the sacrament of Holy Orders. 1979 acquired Tobin at Mount Saint Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus Major a Masters in Pastoral Theology.
From 1979 to 1984, Joseph William Tobin parochial vicar of the parish of Holy Redeemer in Detroit from 1984 to 1990 he was vicar of the same parish. Tobin was also 1980-1986 Episcopal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Detroit and staff of the diocesan tribunal. He was from 1990 to 1991 pastor of Saint Alphonsus in Chicago. In 1991, Joseph William Tobin General Councilor of the Redemptorists and on 9 September 1997 Superior General of the Redemptorists. On 26 September 2003 he was appointed in this position. 2003 Tobin was also Vice- President of the Union of Superiors General. Joseph William Tobin was from 2001 to 2009 member of the Council for Relations between the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life and the International Union of Superiors General. Tobin's term as Superior General of the Redemptorists ended on November 4, 2009. Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 31 May 2010 for apostolic visitor for the religious orders in Ireland.
Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 2 August 2010 Titular Archbishop of Obba and appointed him as Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. He received his episcopal consecration on October 9, 2010 Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were the Cardinal Vicar for the Diocese of Rome, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, and the prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Cardinal Franc Rode CM.
On October 18, 2012, he was named Benedict XVI. Archbishop of Indianapolis. The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) was held on 3 December of that year.
