Josie Farrington, Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton

Josephine ' Josie ' Farrington, Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton ( born June 29, 1940) is a British politician.

Life and career

Cayless Josephine married in 1960 Michael Farrington with whom she has three sons. 1973-1976 she was a member of the Preston Borough Council and was elected to the Lancashire county council in 1977. There she held various positions, including chairman of the education committee held.

From 1981 to 1994 Farrington was a member of the Standing Conference of European Municipalities and Regions and later its successor institution, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe in Euro. She has worked as an election observer in local elections in Poland, Ukraine and Albania. Farrington was also a member of the EU Committee of the Regions.

Farrington was in the 1983 election Labour candidate for the constituency of West Lancashire and joined again at a by-election in 1991.

On September 19, 1994, she became a Life Peer as Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton, of Fulwood in the County of Lancashire. It is Baroness - in-waiting and government spokeswoman for Environment Affairs and Northern Ireland in the House of Lords.
