Josselin

Josselin ( Breton: Josilin Gallo: Jocelein, Jozcelein or Jocelin ) is a commune with 2469 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pays de Josselin.

Geography

Josselin is in the northeast of the department of Morbihan and belongs to the Pays de Josselin. The place is located in the center of the old county Porhoët, 64 kilometers from Vannes, 83 kilometers from Lorient and 81 kilometers from Rennes.

Neighboring municipalities are Lanouée the northwest, La Croix- Helléan in the northeast, southeast, and Guégon Guillac in the southwest.

The place is because of its historical significance intersection of numerous roads. The most important national connection is the N24 which bypasses the city to the north of Josselin. Overall, the place has three ports / connections to this part ( in the industrial zone, north of the center and east of the community).

The city lies on the canalised River Oust, runs along the Canal de Nantes à here of Brest. This partially form the boundary of the municipality. The canal is now used only for tourism through sport and houseboats.

History

Josselin is the residence of the Dukes of Rohan, whose seat is the Josselin castle. The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro -Sant Malou (French Pays de Saint- Malo ) and within this region to region Porc'hoed (French Porhoët ) and shares his story. From 1801 until its dissolution on 10 September 1926, she was part of the arrondissement Ploërmel. Since 1793 Josselin Josselin is the capital of the canton.
