Guillac (Morbihan)

Guillac ( Breton: Gilieg; Gallo: glacé ) is a commune with 1381 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. Local Government Association Pays de Josselin.

Geography

Guillac located in the northeast of the department of Morbihan and belongs to the Pays de Josselin.

Neighboring communities are La Croix- Helléan Helléan and in the north, and Taupont Ploërmel in the east, Le Roc -Saint -André in the southeast, Quily the south and southwest, Saint-Servant and Guégon in the west and Josselin in the northwest.

The village itself lies off major thoroughfares at the intersection of regional roads. However, only four kilometers from Guillac runs the N 24 through the northern municipality. There lies the port of Brangoyan.

The most important waters are the rivers Oust, runs along the Canal de Nantes à here the Brest and Ninian. In the municipality will also find some ponds. Several forest areas cover a significant part of the community area. The biggest of these is the Bois du Bon Coeur west of Brangoyan.

Demographics

History

The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro -Sant Malou (French Pays de Saint- Malo ) and within this region to region Porc'hoed (French Porhoët ) and shares his story. From 1801 until its dissolution on 10 September 1926, she was part of the arrondissement Ploërmel. From 1793 to 1801 Cruguel belonged to the Canton Ploërmel. Since then, she is assigned to the Canton of Josselin.

On March 26, 1351 took place in Guillac the Combat des Trente ( battle of the Thirty ) instead. In this battle for the crown of Brittany challenged thirty English knights Jean de Montfort against thirty local Knights ( for Jeanne de Penthièvre ). The locals won.

On 11 July 1944, a meeting of the Resistance fighters took place. The German side found out about it. The majority of the resistance fighters were able to escape before the arrival of the Germans, thanks to a warning from the population. The Germans seized only René Le Touzic who was arrested, tortured and shot on August 3, 1944 in Josselin. Two other people from this environment, Anne CREQUER and Madeleine Rolland, were also arrested, imprisoned and tortured.
