Jötunheimr

Jotunheim, also Jötunheimr ( Old Norse jǫtunheimr "World of Giants" ), is in Old Norse literature the term for a lying in the east area.

In the eddischen literature is meant by Jotunheim beyond even their own habitat of the giant to the east of Midgard in Utgard. Both areas are separated by the iron forest and several rivers. In later times, when the idea was strengthened by a giant empire, you moved it more and more to the north, as they had gained more knowledge of the eastern regions. In the 19th century it came into use in Norway, to name the highest mountain range in the country Jotunheimen.
