Jouko Karjalainen

Jouko Karjalainen Kalevi ( born July 27, 1956 in Kajaani ) is a retired Finnish Nordic skier.

Career

World Championships

Karjalainen took part in 1978 at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in an international competition. In the individual competition he finished in 8th place.

1982 in Oslo, he missed the 4th place just a medal, but won the team competition with Rauno Miettinen and Jorma Etelälahti the silver medal.

Also with Rauno Miettinen and with Jukka Ylipulli he was in 1984 in Rovaniemi Vice World Champion in non-Olympic team competition.

A year later he won at the World Championships in Seefeld in both the individual as well as in a team competition with Jyri Pelkonen and Jukka Ylipulli the bronze medal.

Olympic games

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid Karjalainen won the silver medal in the individual competition. He repeated this success four years later at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

Other successes and End of career

In 1981, Karjalainen in the individual event at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival.

After his active career of a professional soldier trained from 1998 to 2002 and from 2006 to 2008, the Finnish national team in nordic combined.
