József Egry

József Egry ( born March 15, 1883 southwest Hungarian Zalaújlak in Nagykanizsa, Zala county, † 19 June 1951 Badacsonytomaj Lake Balaton ) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist.

The son of day laborers went in 1904 for a few months at the Munich Art Academy in 1905, he attended the Académie Julian in Paris. From 1906 to 1908 he was in Budapest at the local art school students by Károly Ferenczy and Pál Szinyei Merse. In 1907 he was awarded as a prize for his painting "Before the asylum " a state scholarship. In 1911 he went to Belgium. There he influenced in particular the works of Constantin Meunier. As a soldier in the First World War he became ill in 1916 and was difficult for convalescence at the Balaton, who was it for the rest of his life to the home. On the south shore, first in the town of Keszthely, then in 1928 in the shadow of a former volcano Mount the painter settled in the small wine Badacsony. He was there with his expressionistic style of painting to the painter of the lake.

In 1951, he died there. 1973 his home in Badacsony was converted into a museum in his memory, the (2009) still exists today.
