Juan Asenjo Pelegrina

Juan José Asenjo Pelegrina (* October 15, 1945 in Siguenza, Guadalajara province, Spain) is the Archbishop of Seville.

Life

Juan Asenjo Pelegrina studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of Siguenza - Guadalajara. Asenjo Pelegrina received on 21 September 1969, the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 1971 he graduated from the Theological Faculty of Burgos, a licentiate in Catholic theology.

From 1971 to 1974 taught Juan Asenjo Pelegrina ecclesiology and church history at the seminary of Siguenza. He was from 1974 to 1977 chancellor of the seminary of Siguenza. 1977 Asenjo Pelegrina was sent to Rome for further studies. 1979, he moved his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Church History. In addition, Juan Asenjo Pelegrina earned a diploma in Archives Administration and Library Science at the Vatican Secret Archives of the Vatican Library Vatican Library affiliated school. From 1979 to 1988 Asenjo Pelegrina was director of the university location " Nuestra Señora de la Estrella " in Siguenza. The inauguration took place on 27 September 2003 in the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba instead.

On 13 November 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. to Koadjutorerzbischof of Seville. The inauguration took place on 17 January 2009 at the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede in Seville instead. On 5 November 2009, Juan Asenjo Pelegrina, succeeding Cardinal Carlos Amigo Vallejo, OFM, who resigned for reasons of age, Archbishop of Seville.

Since the Archdiocese of Seville is traditionally connected with the cardinal bishopric, Asenjo Pelegrina considered as candidates for the cardinalate.
