Jules Boucherit

Jules Eugène Boucherit (* 1877 in Morlaix, † 1962 in Paris) was a French violinist and violin teacher.

Life

Boucherit studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jules Garcin. At 27, he won the " Second Prize of the Paris Conservatoire ." After that he played along with Jacques Thibaud in the Concerts Colonne Orchestra and Marcel Chailley became his assistant. 1956 married Boucherit his student Denise Soriano ( 1916-2006 ) who was a famous violinist himself.

Jules Boucherit had many students who themselves have become famous, including Ginette Neveu, Christian Ferras, Michel Schwalbé, Manuel Rosenthal, the great jazz violinist Michel Warlop, Ivry Gitlis, Michèle Boussinot, Michèle Auclair, Devy Erlih and Janine Andrade.

During the occupation in World War II, he hid many Jewish musicians from the Gestapo. In December 1994, Jules Boucherit was awarded posthumously by the Committee for Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, the Medal of the Righteous.
