Jules Feller

Jules Feller (* November 4, 1859 in Roubaix, † April 29, 1940 in Verviers ) was a Belgian linguist, Wallonist and Dialektologe.

Life and work

Feller was until his retirement in 1919 a high school teacher in Verviers. During this time, he conducted research in the Walloon dialectology, was concerned about the normalization of the Walloon orthography earned, worked with Auguste Jean Doutrepont and homelessness in the project of a Dictionnaire général de la langue Wallonne, which proved to be impracticable, and was with the same colleagues from In 1906 the Bulletin du Dictionnaire général de la langue wallonne out. In 1920 he was appointed to the newly founded Académie royale de langue et de littérature françaises de Belgique and got the same at the University of Liege chair of Walloon literature, which he occupied until 1930.
