Jules Janin

Jules Janin ( born February 16, 1804 in Saint- Étienne, † June 19, 1874 in Paris) was a French writer and literary critic.

Jules Janin received his scientific education in Paris and then hit the a career in journalism. He wrote for the Revue des Deux Mondes, Le Figaro, and later for the official gazette La Quotidienne and finally for the Journal of débats. He was a personal friend of Arsène Houssaye, the managing director of the Comédie Française. Since 1836 he worked for the Journal des débats nearly 40 years of book and theater critic, and was therefore in the former literary scene of great influence.

In 1850, he earned a rustic country house in the rue de la Pompe in the former Parisian suburb of Passy. In 1870 he was admitted to the Académie française ( fauteuil 28) as the successor of Sainte -Beuve.

Janin wrote a number of attractive manners and travel images ( last: Paris et Versailles il ya cent ans, 1874) and translated Horace ( 6th ed 1885)
