Jules Laurens

Jules Joseph Augustin Laurens (* July 25, 1825 at Carpentras, † May 5, 1901 in Saint -Didier, Vaucluse ) was a French painter, engraver, draftsman, wood engraver and writer.

Life and work

Laurens received from his brother and then by Paul Delaroche lessons and went in first with some drawings on the Salon of 1840. From 1846 to 1849 he traveled in company with Xavier de Hommaire Light Turkey and Persia. Fruit of this expedition was under the name Hell's published Voyage en Turquie et en Perse (Paris 1854-1860, four volumes of Atlas ) in which the illustrations of Laurens result. He has mainly placed on watercolors and particularly on lithographs, which he produced a large amount of partly according to their own drawings, partly according to which French painter has delivered; same show an easy, simple style, correctness and width of the drawing. Noteworthy are 20 sheets of views from the Vosges after drawings by Bellel (Les Vosges, with text by Théophile Gautier, 1860) and the women's heads in Soularys Album des dames (1864 ).
