Saint-Didier (Vaucluse)

Saint -Didier is a commune with 2149 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Location

Saint -Didier is located east of Avignon, near Carpentras and Pernes- les -Fontaines. The village is located at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse, southwest of Mont Ventoux.

Population Development

History

In 1160 bought Franco, Bishop of Carpentras fixing Raymond V from the Earl of Tholosen. Here first appeared the name S. Desiderii. The old monastery Sainte -Garde -des- Champs dates from the 19th century. The side door of the chapel contains a statue niche and is Grade II listed together with the monastery since 23 April 1981.

Also worth seeing are the wash houses and fountains. The fountain at the church square is a listed building since 28 October 1949.

Furthermore, there is an open air museum for " decoys, animals and truffle ".
