Entrechaux

Entrechaux is a commune with 1094 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Entrechaux is located about 6 km southeast of Vaison -la -Romaine, situated between the River Ouvèze and the Mont Ventoux. In the northeast of Toulourenc opens as a left tributary of the Ouvèze and also forms the border with the neighboring community Mollans -sur -Ouvèze and the Drome region. Other surrounding communities are Malaucène, Crestet, Saint- Marcellin- lès- Vaison, Saint- Romain -en- Viennois and Faucon. Nearest large city is the Carpentras, 19 km away to the south.

Traffic

The route Departmental D13 runs through the town of Mollans -sur -Ouvèze Coming to the southwest. West of the D13 the D54 in the direction of branches Crestet.

History

In the ancient world populated by the Celtic tribe of the Gauls Vocontier the area around Entrechaux. Under the altar of the chapel Notre -Dame-de -Nazareth is an inscription was found which probably belongs to the oldest of this people.

The first documented mention goes back to the year 1108. In a letter Pope, the Bishop of Vaison is confirmed as co-owner of Entrechaux. The Donjon was built in the 10th or 11th century.

Attractions

Entrechaux is the 20 m high Donjon (Château d' Entrechaux ) dominates, on the residence of the bishops of Vaison. Right next to it is the former parish church of Saint- Laurent, which was built in the 15th century on the walls of the keep. To the east of the town there are the chapels of Notre- Dame-de -Nazareth d' Entrechaux and Saint -André. The Chapel of Saint -Laurent d' Entrechaux in the West dates from the 11th century.
