La Roque-Alric

La Roque- Alric is a commune of the département of Vaucluse in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton of Beaumes -de -Venise and the district Carpentras.

Geography

The small southern French village with 58 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) located in the heart of the dentelles de Montmirail at an altitude 150-517 meters on the slopes of a limestone spur.

The municipality is located on the road D90a department, a very narrow, winding road that starts in the west near the village of Lafare, then climbs the mountain in La Roque- Alric and east ends in Le Barroux. The road, which is one of the most beautiful in Provence, allows an impressive view of the dentelles de Montmirail.

The climate is Mediterranean, but it can be fresh when the mistral is blowing.

History

From prehistoric times and ancient times no tracks available. Mention is La Roque- Alric only in 1264, as a fief of the Agoult family to Latil II, de Mormoiron, Lord of Modena passed.

The Modena - Mormoiron ( Modène - Mormoiron ) held the fief until the 15th century it went by marriage to the Lords of Venasque and Raymond. The latter was a famous noble family in the Comtat venaissin (county venaissin ). 1566 sold Truffemont de Raymond half of them at the Helen Isnards, Lord of Malaucène, and bequeathed the other part of his daughter Antoinette, wife of Jean de Chaza. The couple De Chaza sold his share in 1616 to François de Raffelis.

1720 Provence was devastated by the recent plague of Western Europe. The disease also met the Comtat venaissin, where La Roque- Alric was located at the northernmost limit of the propagation area.

Viniculture

The municipality is part of the vineyard Côtes -du -Rhône and this privileged location. In addition to the designation of origin (Appellation ) Côtes -du -Rhône AOC may La Roque- Alric their qualified wines (mostly reds ), as the neighboring communities of Beaumes -de- Venise, Lafare and Suzette market under the narrower appellation Beaumes -de -Venise AOC. In addition, the white sweet wine Muscat de Beaumes -de -Venise is vinified on site.
