Flassan

Flassan is a commune with 412 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Flassan is 16 km from Carpentras in the northeast of the department of Vaucluse. Surrounding municipalities are Villes- sur -Auzon, Mormoiron, Bédoin, Sault and Monieux.

The community is located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, west of the entrance to Canaud Gorge. Near the community center rises the river Auzon, which opens into the Sorgue de Velleron after 35.3 kilometers length. The highest point of the municipality is located to 1058 meters east of the chapel Saint -Jean.

Attractions

For the Romanesque church of the 13th century lead several picturesque roads where you can discover fountains and wash houses. The warm colors of the facades are due to the nearby ocher quarries.

The church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin was founded in the 14th century as a priory. The Romanesque nave has a Latin cross plan and three assisted by Balkenkreuz pointed arches. Under the floor is a crypt with old vaults. The semicircular apse has a semi- dome.

The Vaubonne castle can be dated stylistically to the 18th century. It consists of a main building with two upstream side wings. The municipal area two rural chapels are available. The first is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and is located in the Canaud Gorge. It is partly carved into the rock. In an elevated position chapel Saint -Jean -du -Désert is attested in territorio Villelonga in Monte Ventorio since 1154 under the name of Sancti Johannis. The uniformly acting nave and semicircular apse were restored in 1938.

Tourism

Through the village runs of the 83 km long distance hiking trail GR 91, of Brantes to Fontaine -de- Vaucluse.
