Beaumont-du-Ventoux

Beaumont- du- Ventoux is a commune with 309 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Beaumont- du- Ventoux is located 17 km from Carpentras in the northeast of the department of Vaucluse. Surrounding municipalities are Bédoin, Malaucène and Saint- Léger- du- Ventoux.

The municipality occupies the north-western side of Mont Ventoux. Near the community center flows a small stream, which flows into the Ouvèze in the northwest. The church rises from 357 meters above sea level in the far west to 1,900 meters above sea level near the Mount Ventoux summit in the east.

Traffic

In the south of the municipality is the route Departmental D974 Malaucène Coming runs on an east-west axis to the summit of Mont Ventoux.

The Romanesque chapel of St Sepulchre from the 12th century, is the hamlet Valettes. She was since 1113 a priory of the abbey of Saint -Victor de Marseille. On her tympanum is carved a scene that allows multiple interpretations. Some see them as " a Christ flanked by two crosses and two boxes or houses ", some as "a man puts his oath between two sarcophagi from " or " a blessing worshipers " and others as "the grave of Jesus Christ with ministers ".

In the chapel of Ste -Marguerite, a stele with an unlabeled tree of life is engraved, which has served as Stoup and early Christian altar ..

Tourism

Southeast of the community center of the GR 4 extends to the summit of Mont Ventoux.
