History

The origins of the village date back to the 11th century. It developed around the castle, which was on the border between Provence and Dauphiné as a guard and customs posts. Henri de Rovilhasc ordered the construction of the Renaissance castle, which was built 1539-1544. In the event of an attack, the inhabitants fled there or in the Romanesque church of Saint -Jean -Baptiste (John the Baptist ). The church was extended in the 15th and 16th centuries. The church choir is decorated with a series of wooden panels from the 17th century depicting scenes from the life of John the Baptist. Between 1775 and 1903 there was in place a hospital and hospice, today the building is a residential building. Outside the village is the chapel of Saint- Christophe and the remains of an aqueduct from the 19th century.
