Crestet

Crestet is a commune with 434 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Crestet is located about 3 km southeast of Vaison -la -Romaine, situated between the River Ouvèze and the dentelles de Montmirail. Other surrounding communities adjacent to Vaison are Saint- Marcellin- lès- Vaison, Entrechaux, Malaucène, Gigondas and Séguret. Nearest large city is 18 km away Carpentras in the south.

Along the eastern border flows of Bach Groseau and flows further north than left tributary in the Ouvèze.

Traffic

In a north-south axis of Vaison -la -Romaine coming towards Carpentras route Departmental D938 runs. To the east of the community center branches off the D54 in the direction of Entrechaux.

History

The history of the village dates back to the Roman first century. The castle was built in 840 and served as a refuge to the bishops of Vaison, the 1160 Raimund VI. de Toulouse were expelled from Vaison -la -Romaine. With the approval of the bishops of the master glaziers Aliot de Montvin built in 1426 a Glazier ( Verrerie ) on Flurort " La Regardette ", which was later renamed " La Verrière ". Crestet is a typical mountain village in Vaucluse with houses in the Renaissance style. The place is dominated by a castle from the 9th century, which served as a refuge to the bishops of Vaison.
