Saint-Romain-en-Viennois

Saint- Romain -en- Viennois is a commune with 861 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Saint- Romain -en- Viennois is approximately 3 km north-east of Vaison -la -Romaine in the north of the department of Vaucluse. Other surrounding communities adjacent to Vaison are Villedieu, Puyméras, Faucon, Entrechaux and Saint- Marcellin- lès- Vaison. Nearest large towns are Valréas in North West ( 17 km), Carpentras in the south ( 23 km) and Orange in the south west (28 km).

The municipality is located northeast of the Dentelles de Montmirail and just north of the river Ouvèze. Almost at the center of the flow past Lauzon, which opens as a right tributary to the Ouvèze.

Traffic

The departmental road D938 runs on a north-south axis of Vaison -la -Romaine coming towards Nyons. To the north of the municipal territory branches of this road the D46 after Mollans -sur -Ouvèze from.

History

The place belonged in the 12th century, beginning with the Principality of Orange, and afterwards became the property of the Templars. One document from the year 1220, according to Saint- Romain -en- Viennois was attached as a priory on the island bar near Lyon.

From the 15th century the fief was divided among several landlords. 1573 took Protestants from Nyons a village. During the French Revolution the town was briefly the name Romain- sur -Lauzon.
