Jules Martin

Jules Martin ( born February 27, 1824 in Vevey, † May 21, 1875 in Geneva, home justified in Grandson ) was a liberal - left Swiss politician.

Life

Martin studied from 1842 to 1845 Law at the University of Lausanne in 1849 and gained licensed attorney. In the years 1846-1850 he was a substitute of the public prosecutor in Vevey and was between 1850-1860 at-law in Lausanne. Next he was at the federal courthouse 1854-1872 substitute judge.

In 1849 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud and had a seat there until 1860. During his tenure, he was in 1850, 1852/53, 1855 and 1857 Grand Council president. He represented the canton of Vaud from 1851 to 1852 in the Senate and two years later ( 1854) elected to the National Council. He was National President in 1856 year in office and retired in 1960 from the large chamber.

After his active political career, he was from 1870 to 1872 on the board of the Swiss Federation of Commerce and Industry and settled in 1860 in Geneva and led down there for a few years the branch of a cigar factory of Rinsoz & Ormond. In addition, Martin was a member of the academic community Belles Lettres in the year 1842 (1843 whose president ) and was an honorary member of the Zofingia 1842-1845.

In the Swiss army, he was a major in the infantry.
